Besides fining accomodation, it is important to have some other things in mind when moving here.

Some of the main are the phone and bank operators.

For banks, an important thing to have in mind is the transaction fees they might charge you for an international withdraw. In that matter what I've seen so far is that City Bank usually has the most foreigner friendly fee, but still there is a fee, which varies depending on the home contry and the home bank.

Western Union is also something that can work for you, but the process to transfer money that way requires someone with CPF(Brazilian Social Security Number).

About phone operators, here are some:

Exchange students usually take TIM for the prices and the Infinity Plan(calls between other TIM), but recent research how shown that the operator brings the service down for that plan in order to take your money. Personally I use Vivo, the network for calls and text is ok(nothing like in Europe, so expect your battery to last much less), but the data is really bad(but still better than the others).

By law you require a CPF to buy a SIM Card, but I've seen many people buying them without one. So, try to ask in a store for the salesperson to help you out.
